Betsy MacIldowie née Whyte (1850-1894)
Betsy (Annie) Whyte was born in 1850 in Glenfarg, Scotland, the daughter of James Whyte and Margaret Hay Whyte (née Laing). Her father was a farmer.
In 1879, Betsy married William MacIldowie in Glasgow and they moved to New Zealand in 1880, settling in Dunedin. She was a member of the Southern Dunedin Presbyterian Church.
Betsy died on 29th December 1894 at St Clair, Dunedin, from breast cancer. By this time she was William’s widow; they had no children. Betsy is buried in the Northern Cemetery with her husband and his mother.
