Jane Watson was born in 1832 in Eccleston, Scotland to Andrew and Mary Watson (nee Dewar). Her father Andrew was a bootmaker. She married John Cummock in Busby, Scotland in 1885.

Jane and her daughters Elizabeth and Jane came to New Zealand in 1864 aboard the “Hamilla Mitchell”. It seems her husband came out earlier. They had four more children in New Zealand.

Jane died on 12th December 1893 aged 61 years.
