Josiah Evans (1867-1893)

In the late 1800s safety in the workplace was largely overlooked. On the 24th Oct 1893 the Crown Roller Mill of Dunedin suffered its worst recorded accident. Josiah Evans, the foreman at the mill, died of injuries he sustained through being caught in a revolving belt.

In today’s society there are more rules and regulations in place to prevent such fatalities.
