PETER PETTIT 1837 – 1920

Peter Pettitt was baptised 30 June 1837 at St Dunstan’s Church, Stepney, Middlesex, England. He was the son of Peter Pettitt and Mary Toye, and married Caroline Blenkarn, the daughter of Robert Blenkarn and Sarah Ann Harrison on 27 September 1858 at St Peter’s Church, Bethal Green, Middlesex, England.

Peter & Caroline’s children were Peter, born 8 Sep 1859; Mary, born 1860, died 1862; Walter John, born 1861; Henry, born 1867; and Robert, born 1869. Peter, Caroline, Walter John, and Annie Elethea Pettitt are all buried in the same plot.

It is not known when Peter and his family came to New Zealand, but his sister Elizabeth Thompson and her family came to New Zealand on the “Buckinghamshire”, arriving in May 1874. Their daughter Jessie Thompson was born on the Journey.
