Attiwell Hayes was the son of Attiwell Hayes (Snr) and Amelia Emma Hayes. His parents both died on 7th February 1880, when Attiwell Snr killed his wife “during temporary insanity” and then killed himself. Attiwell, the son, died at the age of 29 on Sunday 23rd December 1888 at the schoolhouse, Waitahuna Gully (as reported in the Otago Witness, 28th December 1888, page 22). He is buried here in the cemetery with his parents and sister.
