VIOLET EDITH ELIZABETH DUNCAN (née GLYNN) 1881–1964 Violet was the daughter of Joseph Glynn an officer in the Grenadier Guards. After active service in the Sudan Joseph became officer in charge of the Kings and Queens messengers in the British House of Commons and was stationed in the Tower of London and then Windsor Castle. Violet was born in the Chelsea Barracks, London, where the family resided. The Duncan family has a photo of Queen Victoria holding Violet’s hand when she was a small girl. Violet died at Waimate, South Canterbury, where she had been living near her daughter for the four years prior to her death, on 15th May 1964. |
