Alexander Gunn: 1837 – 1878 Alexander Gunn was the son of Catherine (nee Bannerman) and William Gunn, a fencer. He was born on 1-1-1837 in Helmsdale, Sutherlandshire, Scotland. Alexander lived in New Zealand for 12 years having arrived around 1865/66. He never married and therefore had no living issue at the time of his death. His occupation is given as Ironmonger and he was a partrner in the Dunedin firm ‘ Ross and Gunn’ Alexander died in Balclutha from concussion of the brain following three days of unconsciousness after a fall from his horse. After his death his brother, William Gunn a Chemist in Timaru, took over the running of his Dunedin business |
