Ann (Annie) Yates née Kennedy (1867 – 1948)
Annie was born in Hobart, Australia in 1867, the daughter of Catherine Oswald and Patrick Kennedy. She came to New Zealand as a 16 year old in 1883 and is listed on the 1893 Electoral Roll for Women as “Annie Yates, housewife, Athol Place, City of Dunedin Electorate”. In 1891 she had married William Yates. Annie and William had two children, Albert and Margaret.
Annie, a devout Catholic, died aged 81 years in the care of the Little Sisters, on June 11th 1948 at Dunedin. Annie is buried in Block 111, Plot 002 of the Northern Cemetery. (Funeral Director was Hope & Sons Dunedin).
The Death Notice for Ann Yates in the Otago Daily Times, 12 June 1948, states:
