Eliza Ann was born 4 August 1874 but only lived a year. Her father, Samuel Carnell died when only 32 years of age and was buried alongside his daughter in the Northern Cemetery. Her mother was Sarah Carnell (nee Palmer), later to become Sarah Birchall
