Margaret Alique (Madge) Moffett née Yates (1909 – 1968)

Madge, daughter of William and Annie, was born in Dunedin in 1909. Madge married on the 29th of December 1938 John Moffett, whose first marriage was to Valmai Vere Livingstone in 1928. John was a Journalist who became the Editor of the Otago Daily Times Newspaper for many years. They had one daughter, Deirdre.

Madge was a member of the Dunedin Grand Opera Group and a program from December 1958 for “Amahl and the Night Visitors” lists Madge Moffett and Bertha Rawlinson as the Producers.
She also taught Elocution for many years.

Unfortunately, Madge’s husband John died while they were in England in 1961 and so she was a widow at the time of her death on the 13th June 1968. She died aged 59 years, and was buried on the 17th June 1968 in the “Yates” Plot (Block 111, Plot 2) in the Northern Cemetery with her parents. Her last known address was 101 Eglinton Road, Dunedin.
