George, son of George William Patterson and Mary Ann Patterson née Clark, was born at Emerald Hill, Victoria, Australia, on 18 January 1859. In 1863 he migrated with his parents from Australia to Port Chalmers. In Dunedin he became a butcher. On 15 March 1880 George Patterson and Emily Walters were married at the residence of the Rev. John Crump in Castle Street, Dunedin. Emily bore ten children, nine of them in Dunedin. George died at Talboys House, Caversham, on 3 January 1934 from syncope paralysis and cerebral haemorrhage. His daughter Lily Lucina is buried with her parents.
