Mary Edmond Wedlake, née McSweeney (c.1863-1928)

Mary McSweeney was born in Cork, Ireland in about 1863.

Mary married Frederick William Wedlake in 1886 in Arrowtown. They had a son, Frederick William, born in Arrowtown on 22nd April 1887. This son later married Elizabeth (Lizzie) Mary Clayton on 31st December 1914, in Dunedin. Lizzie was from a large gold mining family in Macetown.

Some time after 1889 the family moved to Dunedin. Frederick senior became a pawn broker at 133 Princes Street, having been a watchmaker in Arrowtown. In 1917 Mary is recorded as a store keeper at 31 Forth Street. Their son is recorded as a Clerk at 8 Sidey Street, Caversham.

Mary Wedlake died in May 1928, her husband having predeceased her in 1911. They are buried here in the Northern Cemetery in the Wedlake family plot.
