Margaret Hall was born c 1844 at Ballycastle, Country Antrim, Ireland. She emigrated to Australia on the Shackamaxon, leaving from Liverpool and arriving in Melbourne January 1861. She married William Evans (burial register 9696) in Balmoral, Victoria, Australia, on 19 January 1863. They moved to New Zealand, the same year, to the Otago goldfields. From about 1864 until 1878 they lived at Blue Spur, although also acquired and spent time at a farm in Southland. From 1878 until 1890 they lived in Lawrence. In 1890 they moved to Dunedin. William and Margaret had 12 children, three of whom are also buried in the same plot in the Northern Cemetery. Margaret died on 1 April 1925.
