Robert Glendining (1841-1917)

Robert Glendining with John Ross, founded a business empire which by 1906 included four sheep stations, worsted and woollen mills in Kaikorai Valley, a clothing factory in High St, a hat factory in Stafford St, not to mention warehouses throughout the country.

A savings bank, a benefit society and land for housing all contributed to making the workers ‘cheerful and contented with their lot.
