Leonard Gerry and Mary Hambly were married on 17 October, 1885, in St Austell, Cornwall, England

Along with members of the Hambly family, they sailed to New Zealand and settled at Hamilton, Maniototo, where Leoanard Gerry was a goldminer.

When mining ceased, Leonard and Mary and their four sons who had been born at Hamilton (Percy, 1890, Frederick, 1893, William, 1896 and Frank 1898) shifted to a dairy farm in Ravensbourne, Dunedin, in 1901.

The dairy farm remained in the family with Leonard’s son Percy evetually taking over it after the death of Leonard.

Leonard and Mary had two more sons in Dunedin – John, 1901 and Stanley, 1907.
