Elizabeth (Eliza) Strachan, née Kidd 1838-1919

Eliza was born in Ashton-under-Lyne (now the outskirts of Manchester) on 1 May 1838. She emigrated to Australia with her parents, leaving Liverpool in July 1841, when she was two and a half years old. They sailed on the ship Wallace and arrived at Corio Bay, Geelong, Victoria, on 26 November 1841.

At the age of twenty-one, Eliza sailed from Melbourne on board the Pirate and arrived in New Zealand on 3 August 1859. Soon after, on 15 August, she and William Strachan were married at Captain William Thomson’s home in Port Chalmers.

Eliza died in 1919.
