In Remembrance of Elizabeth Eason nee Stone Loved Wife of Charles Robert Eason 19-12-1858 – 27-12-1887 and their youngest daughter Eva Maud Eason 24-8-1885 – 23-6-1906 |
Eva Maud Eason Eva Maud Eason, youngest daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Eason was born in Kaikorai on 24th August 1885 and was aged 2 years when her mother died. She attended Kaikorai School until 1896 when the family moved to Katea, Owaka. By that time the family included Charles’s second wife and their children. Little is known of those years but Eva went to Christchurch to work and later died in Christchurch Hospital on 23rd June 1906 as result of an accident at the Railway Station. It is understood that she stepped off the train to help an older woman with her children and parcels on to the train, and then, trying herself to board the moving train, she slipped and fell. Her workmates are recorded as saying that she was very popular with those she worked with and that she had a very kindly, helpful nature. She was buried with her mother in the Northern Cemetery, Dunedin on 28th June 1906 in her 21st year. |
